Welcome to my blog! To be honest it was a bit of a struggle trying to come up with a starting line for my blog; I have to admit it has been so so long since i last kept a blog, but i do hope to continue on in this new venture and to keep all my readers entertained and informed on the goings-on around here. Well, down to business. So, what is the purpose of this blog? With this blog, i intend to reveal a little about myself, (or maybe a lot), share my writing experiences, keep my readers updated on news about my present and future works, and so on and so on. Hopefully I won't bore you all to death! Please give me a shake if you see me veering towards that path. I want to share my little tips on writing, editing, publishing, books, literature, and whatever else i feel the need to share. I love to read, love to gain more knowledge about different things, and nothing else gives me the utmost pleasure than to share my bit of knowledge with anyone interested in learning and knowing more.
So did i mention already that i love to read? Yes, my very first hobby as a child was reading. While other kids were outside playing in the garden, or watching TV, i was by the corner, catching up on the Famous Five series or the Secret Seven, Malory Towers, and others. I was blown away by the way words could take you to places you've never been in your life, at the same time making you feel as though you've been there before.
It was at this early stage of my life that i became obsessed with words, meanings, double meanings, figures of speech, and the quest to find out what in the world literature was all about. The older i grew, the deeper i fell in love with the English language, and i fell in love with Shakespeare, with Robert Frost, Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, among other literary legends. I made it my mission to learn all i could about writing, and i started writing here and there, little stories, little meaningless poems, but writing anyway. As a teenager, struggling to find myself, all i had to do was pick up my pen, get my diary, and all was right with the world for me. In writing, i found myself someplace else, anywhere i wanted to be, creating people, scenarios, events. It didn't matter that what i wrote may not have made sense, that they were perhaps pure jargon. All that mattered was that i was writing, writing whatever came to my mind at that time, and that was enough for me.
What to take away from this post? Whatever it is that you feel passionate about, keep doing it, keep going at it, no matter what people or circumstances are saying to you. Don't give up on your dream, as totally cliche as that may sound. Keep doing what you do, and in time, it will pay off. Encourage your teenage son or daughter when you've noticed that they've taken on a particularly interesting hobby, or are displaying some talent (even if it's a little bit of it) in anything in particular, be it music, writing, singing, acting, etc.I promise you, it will pay off, in time. A few of the poems in my poetry collection, Ruminations, talk about living your dream, keeping ahead, even when things around you keep pulling you back, trying to get you down. When you do find yourself down, and you think you're unable to get up, to move on, just try, take that one step, push yourself up with that little strength you have, and keep going. You'll get through!
Til next time....
